299 Andrea Coates Assistant Librarian Reader developement is very important both in schools and public libraries.  Getting children to discuss what type of thing they like and picking a book that will stimulate them

284 A Smith teacher
283 Anne Leedham LIbrary Officer I was always encouraged to read at home - and certainly at school - whilst growing up in the 60s and 70s. And I was always keen. Schools especially need to promote enjoyment of reading as a matter of course.

273 Benjamin Scott Author
272 Bev Humphrey Surely this is a no brainer and everyone should sign it!
271 Beverley Birch Author and editor I would also like to pledge the support of CHILDREN'S WRITERS AND IllUSTRATORS IN SOUTH LONDON - and will circulate members individually. Our work in local communities and schools shows how critical the experience of reading for pleasure and sharing story is in nurturing true literacy, self-confidence, and intellectual growth, particularly where many children do not come from reading homes. This is an essential campaign.
270 Beverly Sanford
269 Gill Smith Librarian Much needed.
268 Caroline Blyth
267 Darren Hartwell Mr There are so many people doing fantastic work to encourage young people to read, but they need help from the very top.
266 Brenda Gash Bookstart Officer
265 Brian Keaney children's author
264 Anne Brook Librarian I put a lot of effort into persuading teachers at our secondary school, of the importance of familiarizing themselves with children's books so that they can encourage their students to read and discuss their reading with them. This meets with mixed success as some teachers don't see this as their responsibility. I am very glad that this is being taken up as part of the Just Read Campaign. Keep up the good work!
263 Camilla Lloyd Editor
262 Caroline Horn Editor, ReadingZone.com
261 Caroline Roche School Librarian With both public and school libraries disappearing all over the country, and qualified librarians not being appointed to run school libraries any more, the situation is getting worse, and reading for pleasure, supported by specialists, is disappearing from this country. Something needs to be done quickly!
260 Carolyn Gallagher Librarian
259 Catherine Johnson writer
258 Christopher Sharp University Administrator
257 Celia Rees
256 Caroline Fielding School Librarian
255 Charlotte Reed Literacy Consultant Teachers need to have training in both ways to teach reading and how to read and select books.  Being able to select a good quality text to share with and inspire young minds has been a sadly neglected skill in many teachers and schools.  I fully support the campaign and will be promoting it with all the teachers I work with.
254 Chris Bradford Author Reading is vital. There is a drive in schools for sport, but reading is just as essential to a child's health. As Joseph Addison (English Writer and Statesman)said in C17th, “Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.”
253 Chris Conway Director Best wishes and I hope the campaign goes well
252 Chrissie Gittins poet and writer
251 Valerie Christie Children's Services Manager - Librariesni
